Transition

Transitions at Eastern Ranges School

The Transitions team at Eastern Ranges School supports all students undertaking the Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) in Years 10, 11, and 12. Led by Transition Coordinator Bree Tollitt, the program provides comprehensive support in Vocational Education and Training (VET), School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs), Work Experience, Community Work, Mini Woolies, and Post-School Pathways.

School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs)

Eligible students have the opportunity to undertake SBATs in industries such as Supply Chain, Baking, Horticulture, and Automotive. We collaborate closely with Head Start, a consortium of secondary schools in the Outer East, to provide students with valuable workplace experience while they complete a certificate course.

Vocational Education and Training (VET)

Eastern Ranges School offers students a Certificate II in Active Volunteering, delivered on-site. This course provides students with hands-on experience in various volunteer roles, with a strong focus on community engagement.

Skill Set VET Courses

In addition to full certificate courses, we offer VET skill sets in Cooking, Retail, and Entrepreneurship. Students complete four units from a certificate program while engaging in hands-on learning experiences through our Mini Woolies store and Senior Kitchen.

Work Experience

Group Work Experience

Students participate in structured group work experience placements to gain insights into workplace expectations. These placements focus on warehousing duties within supported environments, with host workplaces including Knoxbrooke, Endeavour, Nadrasca, and Waverley Industries.

Structured Workplace Learning (SWL)

Students with specific career interests may undertake individual work experience placements aligned with their studies. We currently have students gaining hands-on experience in Hospitality, Retail, Aged Care, Automotive, and Childcare, allowing them to develop independence and industry-specific skills.

Mini Woolies

Our Mini Woolies store, located within the school, provides students with real-world experience in literacy, numeracy, money handling, and register operation. Students participate in product handling, stock management, and customer service, building confidence and independence for future employment. All students in Years 10-12 complete a weekly shift in the store, and some undertake an extended Mini Woolies Work Experience Program. Additionally, all students across the school have the opportunity to visit the store and shop for groceries.

Community Work

Selected students in Years 10-12 participate in weekly community work placements, gaining valuable experience in volunteer roles. Current placements include delivering meals for the Maroondah Meals on Wheels Program, as well as previous partnerships with Vinnies Op Shop and Pinchapoo.

Post-School Pathways

The primary goal of the Transition Program is to support students and families in exploring and selecting the most suitable post-school options. The transition process includes:

  • Term 1: Annual Transitions Expo, where students and families connect with post-school providers.
  • Term 2: Visits and tours of post-school providers’ facilities.
  • Term 3: Interviews and trial days with selected post-school providers.
  • Term 4: Transition days (if required) and the Year 12 Graduation
